India clinched the Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal with a 19-run triumph over Pakistan in a gripping final at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. The victory marked India’s successful defense of their title and underscored their dominance in T20 internationals against Pakistan.
Opting to bat first, India set a formidable target by scoring 211/6. Abhishek Sharma gave India a blazing start with a rapid half-century, propelling the team to 81/2 in the Powerplay, their highest against Pakistan in T20Is. Despite a mid-innings slowdown orchestrated by Pakistan’s bowlers Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abrar Ahmed, India regained momentum with Tilak Varma’s explosive performance.
Tilak Varma played a crucial role in the latter half of the innings, remaining unbeaten on 51 from just 22 balls. His partnership of 62 runs with Shivam Dube, who added 27, was instrumental in India surpassing the 200-run mark.
In response, Pakistan mounted a strong chase led by Hasan Nawaz, who scored an unbeaten 96 off 51 balls. His 87-run partnership with Saim Ayub put India under considerable pressure. However, India’s bowlers managed to regain control in the crucial moments. Washington Sundar’s effective 18th over and Jasprit Bumrah’s tight penultimate over were pivotal in stalling Pakistan’s progress.
Needing 33 runs in the final over, Pakistan fell short as India’s Shivam Dube successfully defended the target, securing the 19-run victory. The win not only reinforces India’s supremacy in the format but also adds another gold medal to their Asian Games tally.
