Oman has reiterated its commitment to resolving international disputes through dialogue and peaceful negotiation, as highlighted by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi at the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Al Busaidi emphasized the necessity of dialogue in building trust and addressing international crises, underscoring the importance of respecting national sovereignty and international law while eschewing force and interference in state affairs.
Amidst regional tensions, Oman expressed concerns about security and trade implications, particularly regarding navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Al Busaidi reaffirmed Oman’s dedication to ensuring the freedom of navigation in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. He urged all parties to practice restraint and resolve disputes through political dialogue, while maintaining solidarity with Gulf nations to protect regional security and sovereignty.
The situation in Yemen also received attention, with Oman advocating for a political solution that maintains Yemen’s unity and stability. Al Busaidi called on all involved parties to work towards a settlement that safeguards the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people, contributing to the nation’s reconstruction and development.
Oman also addressed the ongoing issues in Palestine, condemning Israeli actions and expressing support for Palestinian rights. Al Busaidi reiterated Oman’s backing for a two-state solution, based on the borders of June 4, 1967, in line with relevant UN resolutions. Additionally, Oman’s efforts to promote tolerance and counter hate speech through initiatives like the Muscat Plan and cooperation with the United Nations were highlighted.
Lastly, Al Busaidi emphasized Oman’s commitment to sustainable development as part of Oman Vision 2040, focusing on renewable energy, sustainable transport, and green industries, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050.
