Oman is poised to take a significant step in its renewable energy journey with the upcoming launch of the “Imtidad” Community Solar Power Stations Programme. Scheduled for next week, this initiative is spearheaded by the Public Services Regulation Authority (PSRA) in collaboration with licensed electricity companies. It aims to broaden public involvement in renewable energy by enabling residents and businesses to harness solar power without needing to install panels on their properties.

The programme offers subscribers the opportunity to earn credits on their electricity bills through solar power generated by community stations connected to the national grid. This innovative model is designed to lower energy costs, promote the adoption of clean energy, and support Oman’s shift towards a more sustainable energy landscape. A significant highlight of the launch is the inauguration of the Wadi Al Kabir Community Solar Power Station, the first of its kind under the Imtidad initiative and Oman’s inaugural community-based solar facility. Officials plan to expand such projects progressively throughout the country.

The Imtidad programme is set to deliver a range of benefits, including economic, social, and environmental advantages. By encouraging investment in renewable energy, it supports local businesses, creates job opportunities, and enhances energy efficiency. The initiative is also aligned with Oman’s broader strategic goals to diversify its energy sources, bolster sustainability, and advance the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Community solar projects under this programme are expected to make renewable energy more accessible, particularly for households and businesses that may not have the space or resources for their own solar installations. These efforts contribute significantly to the national clean energy targets, ensuring that more segments of society can participate in and benefit from Oman’s renewable energy transformation.
