Tim Cook has transitioned from his role as Apple’s chief executive to the position of executive chair, receiving a substantial compensation package valued at approximately $47 million. This package consists of a $2 million base salary alongside $45 million in shares, with half of the stock award contingent upon performance targets and the remainder set to vest over four years.
Cook’s decision to step down as CEO paved the way for John Ternus to take over the position. Ternus, who formerly led Apple’s hardware engineering, will now guide the company’s product strategy and operations. His compensation as CEO includes a $3 million base salary and a $55 million stock award, with a significant portion of this package also tied to performance metrics.
During Cook’s tenure as CEO, which saw him earning over $74 million in 2025, Apple experienced significant growth in market value, reaching a staggering $4.7 trillion. In his new role as executive chair, Cook will shift his focus towards managing Apple’s external affairs, particularly its relationships with governments, policymakers, and key international markets.
With Cook focusing on external engagements, Ternus is tasked with steering the company’s internal operations, ensuring the continued success of Apple’s product lineup. His extensive experience within the company positions him well to lead Apple into its next phase of innovation and growth.
