Iran has threatened to halt peace negotiations with the United States, accusing Israel of breaching the ceasefire agreement due to its military activities in Lebanon. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that the ceasefire must be upheld across all fronts, including Lebanon, and warned that any violation would jeopardize the entire agreement. Tehran holds both Israel and the United States accountable for any repercussions stemming from renewed hostilities.
In response to Iran’s stance, U.S. President Donald Trump remarked that Washington had not received any formal communication from Tehran regarding the suspension of talks. However, he mentioned that a temporary pause in negotiations could be manageable. Trump also pointed out that the U.S. would continue its blockade on Iranian ports while refraining from immediate military escalation.
Amid efforts to maintain the ceasefire, President Trump engaged in discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and intermediaries connected to Hezbollah. Subsequently, Lebanon confirmed that both Israel and Hezbollah had consented to a mutual cessation of attacks, including strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut. Nevertheless, Netanyahu cautioned that Israel would persist in targeting Hezbollah if the attacks on Israeli civilians continued.
Tensions further escalated when Israel issued evacuation warnings for parts of Beirut. In retaliation, Iran warned that any significant Israeli assault on the Lebanese capital or its southern suburbs would prompt retaliatory strikes against targets within Israel. Iranian officials also accused the United States of not upholding the ceasefire commitments, citing ongoing economic pressure and military actions. Tehran has indicated that future negotiations, including those concerning its nuclear program, will remain suspended until broader security issues are resolved.
